Anna Merle McSwain Underwood, age 94 of Paris, TN passed away Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at her residence. Her funeral service will be 12:00 PM Monday, December 20, 2021, at McEvoy Funeral Home with Bro. Russell Ragsdale of Friendship Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be after 10:00 AM Monday, prior to the service at McEvoy Funeral Home. Anna Merle McSwain Underwood was born February 6, 1927, in Puryear, TN to the late W.A. "Bill" McSwain and the late Irene Herman McSwain. On October 5, 1946, she married Prentice Edwin Underwood and he preceded her in death on November 15, 2005. Merle was a member of First Baptist Church in Paris and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was a nurse working at Henry County General Hospital for 36 years. She worked in surgery, was the head of nursing, and was also the head of obstetrics. Ms. Underwood is survived by three sons: Dale (Marcia) Underwood of Camden, TN, Gary "Tony" (Beverly) Underwood of Buchanan, TN, and Steve Underwood of Puryear, TN; sister, Berle McClure of Michigan; five grandchildren: Benjamin Underwood, Bert (Mindy) Underwood, Melanie Underwood, Patrick Underwood, and Amy McKinney; seven great-grandchildren: Shane Underwood, Stone Underwood, Austin Underwood, Madison McDaniel, Reagan Hollingsworth, Toby McKinney, and Jamison Underwood; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and extended family. Besides her parents and husband, Merle was also preceded in death by her brother, Gary H. McSwain. Pallbearers for Ms. Underwood will be Patrick Underwood, Larry Jackson, Melanie Underwood, Ricky Owen, Greg Underwood, and Ronnie Herman. Visitation McEvoy Funeral Home, Inc.
