Barney Troy Knight was called to his heavenly home on Sunday September 27, 2015 at the age of 93. He was born March 16, 1922 to Mattie and Wilson Knight in Tharp TN (near Dover). He was the youngest of 10 children, 6 sisters 3 brothers. All of his siblings have preceded him in death.
He is also preceded in death by 2 wives, Bessie Stack (Stewart County) and Meta Adams (Henry County).He leaves behind 3 sons, Conroy (Linda) Knight, Troy (Katherine) Knight, Gene (Nancy) Knight and one
daughter, Judy (Scott) Bierlein, 2 stepsons, James (Tina) Eastwood, and Kennie (Eva) Eastwood.Also grieving his loss are 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 2 great, great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Barney served in the Army during World War II. He saw active combat in the Philippine islands. He returned from the war and settled in Granite City IL where he worked for Laclede Steel until he retired in 1977. Upon retiring, he and his wife Meta moved to Paris TN.
He enjoyed living in Paris and became involved in the community. He was active in the local VFW serving several years as Post Commander. He was proud to be a veteran. He held many odd jobs around town, including school bus driver. Barney was a member of Buchanan Methodist Church and a resident of Morningside of Paris since 2010, where he received the care and support of many wonderful people. Those who knew Barney will remember his good humor, wit and kindness. For those who knew him well, he will also be remembered for the never ending pocket of tootsie rolls or Werthers.
Funeral Service will be held Thursday, October 1, 2015 at 11 am, McEvoy Funeral Home, 507 West Washington Street, burial to follow at Bethel Cemetery, with military rites, Lax Rd. Buchanan TN. Visitation at McEvoy Funeral Home on Wednesday Sept 30, 2015 from 2pm to 7pm and Thursday morning 10am.
