CARNELL HILL SCHMITTOU, 90, of Birmingham, AL, died at her home in Vincent in the early morning of Wednesday, October 8, 2014 following a period of declining health. Carnell was a homemaker with many talents, including sewing and other needle crafts, painting, flower arranging and culinary arts. She lived most of her 63-year marriage to Odis Hilton Schmittou at their Acton Road home in Birmingham and attended Rocky Ridge Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Funeral service will be held at McEvoy Funeral Home in Paris, Tennessee on Saturday, October 11th, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. Mark Weldon and Dale Gallimore presiding. Visitation with the family will begin at 2:00 p.m. Graveside will be at Maplewood Cemetary following the service. A native of Osage, TN, Carnell was born May 10, 1924, daughter of James Porter and Mary Elizabeth Compton Hill. She is survived by her brother Gerald Porter Hill of Nolensville, TN, two daughters, Phyllis Loggins of Vincent and Jennifer Weldon of Hoover. There are two grandchildren, Alexandria Caroline Nelson of Vestavia and Ryan Smith of Charleston,SC. She has one great grandchild, Emma Caroline Nelson of Vestavia. Preceding her in death were her husband Odis Hilton Schmittou, two brothers James Roy Hill, Guy Edwin Hill and sisters Mildred Elenor Austin and Margaret Reptowski.
