Ms. Claxton was a longtime member of Eastwood Church of Christ. Carolyn was a registered nurse, graduating from Swedish American School of Nursing. From the family: Carolyn Sue Hough Claxton grew up in Zion, IL. At the close of her life she lived and served in a community filled with people whom she respected and loved. Although we have a lifetime of memories, we reflect on who she is at this moment in time. Her greatest work was her jail ministry, her friends, and her family. Our mom saw her efforts in jail ministry as a way to bring light to those most likely to be passed over by society. She took on that work, knowing that the underlying truth beneath any faith requires compassion, empathy and action. She always had an altruistic approach to life and care for others. Her lifelong love of nursing is evident of that. The love and respect she achieved within her family and community, and its ability to continue after her passing, is the best any of us can hope to achieve in this life. Please hold on to and share the legacy of grace that she afforded us all. Please consider supporting the following organizations in her name: Projectreturninc.org and Saprea.org.
