Carolyne Giles Haywood age 88 passed away Monday, September 25, 2017 at UT Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee. She was a member of Maryville Church of Christ after she moved to Maryville from Tifton, Georgia to be closer to family.
Carolyne grew up in the Van Dyke community on the Giles Family Farm. She attended the Van Dyke one room school where she rode her pony to school. She graduated from Grove high school in Paris, Tennessee before attending Peabody College in Nashville. She received degrees in Science, Mathematics, and English leading to a lifetime career of teaching. She loved learning and sharing that knowledge tutoring into her late 70s.
She lived through the great depression, World War 2, women voting rights, the civil rights movement, and the technological revolution. She went from riding a horse to riding in airplanes, from crank telephones to cell phones and the internet, from oil lamps to electricity.
Preceded in death by: Husband, Jules Floyd Haywood, Jr.; Parents, Albert Greene Giles & Evie Giles. Survivors include: Son & Daughter-in-law, Jim & Becky Haywood; Daughter & Son-in-law, Melinda & Rick Davis; Grandchildren, Philip & Daniel Haywood, Hannah & husband, Scott Brock; Great-Grandsons, Eli and Landon Brock.
The family will celebrate her life with a graveside service on Saturday, July 28th at 10:30 am at Maplewood Cemetery. We invite friends and family to join us.
