Mr. Charles R. Shortridge, age 90, of Springville, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at his residence. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at McEvoy Funeral Home with Bro. Don Williams of Antioch United Methodist Church to officiate. Burial will follow in Antioch UMC Cemetery. Named as pallbearers are Chuck Bates, Bill Pearcy, Dick Breedlove, Eddy Choate, Thomas Choate, and Randall Winchester. No public visitation is planned.
Charles R. Shortridge was born on January 26, 1936, in New Castle, Indiana, to the late Virgil Irvin Shortridge and the late Neomah Inez Fannin Shortridge. He married Alice Wilson Shortridge in 1972, and she preceded him in death, October 23, 2011. Charles is survived by his daughters, Cindy Shortridge of Anderson, Indiana, and Kristina Dopel of Springville; sons, Jeff Shortridge of Indianapolis and Tom Shortridge of Muncie; twelve grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; brother, James “Jim” Shortridge of Springville; by several nieces, nephews, friends, and bonus family member, friend, and caregiver, Lois Bates.
Besides his parents and wife, Mr. Shortridge is also preceded in death by his sister, Rebecca Jean Smith and by his brother, Virgil Shortridge.
Mr. Shortridge was a member of Antioch United Methodist Church. He worked and retired as a school teacher from the New Castle Indiana School System with 30 years of service. Charlie was an avid coon hunter and raised world champion coon hounds. He also enjoyed fishing and many other outdoor activities.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
