Don Wood age 86 of Springville, TN passed away Wednesday at Henry County Healthcare Center. His funeral service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Sulphur Well Church of Christ with Bro. Randy Stephens and Bro. Bob Palmer officiating. Burial will follow in the Sulphur Well Church of Christ Cemetery. Visitation will be at McEvoy Funeral Home from 4:00-7:00 PM Friday, February 8, 2019 and 10:00 AM until service time Saturday at Sulphur Well Church of Christ. Pallbearers for Mr. Wood will be his grandsons.
Don Wood was born September 12, 1932 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late William Justus Wood and the late Mildred Elizabeth Macon Wood. On March 7, 1953 he married Margie Johnston Wood and she survives in Springville, Tennessee. He is also survived by a daughter, Donna (Randy) Stephens of Springville, TN; a son, Bill (Paula) Wood of Jonesboro, GA; a daughter-in-law, Melinda Wood of Springville, TN; a brother, Robert Earl (Shari) Wood of Kansas City, MO; a sister-in-law, Bettie (Bill) Lawrence of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; seven grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Mr. Wood was also preceded in death by a son, Mark Wood.
Don Wood was a member of the Riverdale Church of Christ where he served as an elder and was also a member of the Sulphur Well Church of Christ in his later years. He was a United States Air Force Veteran serving during the Korean War. Don was a graduate of Georgia State University and worked in the Air Traffic Control in Atlanta for 41 years. He enjoyed his years as a scoutmaster. Despite his "Gran Grumps" nickname, he was a generous and caring man that will be missed by all who knew him.
