Dorothy Sue Rumbley Brannon, 88, of Puryear died on Mothers Day, Sunday, May 14, 2017 at the Anna Mae Owen Hospice House in Murray. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 18th at Puryear Baptist Church with Mike Rhodes, Steve Gallimore and Chad Kennedy officiating. Burial will follow at Puryear Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Puryear Baptist Church and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church. She was born June 2, 1928 in Elkhorn to the late John and Johnnie Bogie Rumbley. She was married on October 18, 1947 to Harold Hampton Brannon, who preceded her in death on December 21, 1996. She joined Puryear Baptist Church in February of 1952 and she passionately loved her church and every member of it. She was a deacon wife, former YWA leader, and most of all she loved and fixed meals for all her pastors. She formerly worked at Diggs Motor Company, the Henry County Trustee office, Henry County Farm Bureau, and Laird Brick Company. Her primary occupation though was that of a devoted farm wife/mother serving as the matriarch of Brannon farms where she still had a little say in the operation. In later years, she battled continual health issues and lots of bad luck including deploying the air bags on her car three times in one year and breaking most every bone in her body at one time or another. She moved into Eiffel Gardens Assisted Living on August 15, 2011 and advanced through the ranks to gain the title of Resident Ambassador having only to be put in "time-out" a couple of times. She is survived by two sons: Tim (Debbie) and Tony (Lisa) Brannon of Puryear; four grandchildren Natalie (Joey) Boyd, Kelly (Cody) Bumpus, and Caleb and Jonah Brannon; two great-grandchildren Luke and Isabelle Boyd; a sister-in-law Betty Gallimore who was more like a sister; a niece and several nephews. She also was preceded in death by two brothers: J.T. (Vera) and James Rumbley; and two brother-in-laws Thomas Brannon and Doyle Gallimore. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Puryear Baptist Church Family Life Center, P.O. Box 56, Puryear Tn. 38251 or to the Brannon Family Scholarship, 200 Heritage Hall, Murray State University, Murray, Ky 42071. SERVICES Funeral Service
