Ms. Dorothy "Lavelle" Hand Cotham, age 92 of Brevard, North Carolina, formerly of Paris, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Cedar Mountain House in Brevard. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, January 21, 2024, at McEvoy Funeral Home, conducted by Bro. Don Williams and burial to follow in Palestine Cemetery. Named as pallbearers are Stan Heath, Mark Heath, Pete Hand, Ryan Anderson, Corey Anderson, and David Snow. Ms. Cotham was born August 20, 1931, in Frog Jump, Tennessee to the late Jesse Newt Hand and the late Amanda Burkeen Hand. She married "Perry" Hardin Cotham, on June 15, 1947, and he preceded her in death, on April 25, 2001. Lavelle is survived by her son, Stephen D. (Sharon) Cotham of Murray, Kentucky; grandchildren, Ryan K. Anderson, Corey B. Anderson, Wendy Jo Cotham (Tucker) Mabry, and Molly Catherine Cotham; five great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Tommy Anderson of Brevard, NC; and sister, Zada Nowell. Besides her parents and husband, Ms. Cotham was also preceded in death by her daughter, Teresa Cotham Anderson, and by several brothers and sisters. Ms. Cotham was a member of the Palestine United Methodist Church for many years and formerly worked for Emerson Electric Company for 28 years. She was a lifetime Lioness and a member of the Palestine Community Club.
