Alvin "Earl" Matheny, age 84 of Puryear, Tennessee passed away on Monday, January 25, 2021 at Henry County Medical Center. His funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, January 28, 2021 with Bro. Teddy Hill of Jesus Saves Baptist Church officiating. A private burial will follow at Roselawn Memory Garden. Visitation is scheduled after 12:00 P.M. Thursday until time of service.
Earl Matheny was born April 1, 1936 in Henry County, Tennessee to the late Elvis Matheny, Sr. and the late Clara Matheny. He married Geneva Hughes on April 23, 1955 and she preceded him in death on October 16, 2019. He is survived by his sons, Steven Matheny of Puryear and John (Angie) Matheny of Murray, Kentucky; daughter-in-law: Gala Matheny of Paris; grandchildren, Alicia, Matthew, Adam, Brandon, Tyson, Cody and Christopher Matheny; several great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Hutson of Allen Park, Michigan, Odean Morris of Paris and Carolyn Fodge of McKenzie; also by numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
Besides his parents and wife, Earl is also preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Morehead and brothers William Eli Matheny and Elvis Matheny, Jr. His son, Timothy "Tim" Matheny passed away on Friday, January 22, 2021.
Mr. Matheny worked at Emerson Electric and retired at their closing. He was a member of Jesus Saves Baptist Church where he also served as a Deacon.
