Elwood R. Maxwell age 92 of Murray, KY formerly of Elkhorn, TN passed away Wednesday June 22, 2016 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Murray.
His funeral service will be Friday June 24, 2016 10:00AM at McEvoy Funeral Home with Bro. Philip Maxwell and Bro. Randy Stephens officiating, burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Named as pallbearers are Glen Wimberley, Larry Wimberley, Curt Schoolfield, Frankie Maupin, Donnie Linville and Avery Myers. Austin Perry, Ben Williamson, Doug Schoolfield, Johnny Gibson, Bob Crockett and Jim Hamilton will serve as honorary pallbearers.
He was born October 18, 1923 in Henry County, TN to the late Ray and Minnie Hicks Maxwell. On June 4, 1949 he married Connie Owens Maxwell, she survives, Murray, KY.
Survived by sons: Paul (Stephanie) Maxwell, South Fulton, TN, Philip (Tamatha) Maxwell, Murray, KY; grandchildren: Morgan Maxwell, Macy Maxwell, Jeremy Maxwell, Lea McCool, Ray Maxwell, Anthony Brandenburg, Thomas Brandenburg, Thomas Brandenburg, Mary Grace Starks and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Preceded by a sister: Laurine Maxwell (Lewis) Jackson and a brother: John Franklin (Charlene) Maxwell.
Elwood was a graduate of Grove High School and played football on the undefeated team in 1940. He was a member of Sulphur Well Church of Christ. He served during WWII in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He was a graduate from U.T. Knoxville with a B.S. in Agriculture Engineering and farmed in the Elkhorn Community for many years; worked and retired from the Michigan Wisconsin Pipeline Company in Cottage Grove, TN. He was a longtime member of the Henry County Historical Society.
