Mr. Gene A. Howell age 78 of Cottage Grove, Tennessee passed away Thursday March 9, 2017 at his sister-in-law's residence. His body is to be cremated and a memorial service will be announced at a later date. Gene was born on July 29, 1938 in Stewart County. He is preceded in death by his parents William Hershel Howell and Katie Mildred Champion Howell. Gene married Madeline Seger on April 29, 1963 and she preceded him in death on May 2, 2010. He is survived by his son: Lonnie (Judy) Howell of Huntingdon, Tennessee; sister: Ruth King of Memphis; brother: Edward (Teresa Nash) Howell of Paris; sisters-in-law: Rebecca Howell of Cottage Grove, Faye Perry and Sue (John) Krezinski of Paris, Louetta Cloys of Milan; grandchildren: Tisha Mitchell, Dale Scruggs, and Scotty Scruggs all of Huntingdon; four great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; special friends: Gary Collier, Carl Mann, Tommy and Ann Martin, and Lois Hamilton. Mr. Howell also leaves behind numerous other friends. Mr. Howell is also preceded in death by sister: Frances Grubbs; brother: James Howell; sister-in-law: Lillian Neatherly. Gene loved music and frequently performed with ROCKABILLY COUNTRY BAND in the Paris area. He also enjoyed participating at the Friday Night Blues held at KPAC in Paris. Mr. Howell's family has requested that memorials be made to McEvoy Funeral Home, P.O. Box 158, Paris, Tennessee 38242 to help defray final expenses.
