George Edward Townley, age 82 of Buchanan, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at his residence. His funeral service will be 11:00 AM Thursday, February 27, 2020 at McEvoy Funeral Home with John Dale officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery in Buchanan. Visitation will be at McEvoy Funeral Home from 4:00-7:00 PM on Wednesday and after 9:00 AM on Thursday prior to the service. Pallbearers for Mr. Townley will be Alan Scobey, Keith Townley, Kirk King, David Boyd, Joseph Scobey, and John Boyd. George Edward Townley was born January 2, 1938 in Buchanan, Tennessee to the late Gentry Chilton Townley and the late Mary Elizabeth Easley Townley. On November 15, 1958 he married Shelbie Gene King Townley and she survives in Buchanan, Tennessee. Along with his wife, Mr. Townley is survived by two daughters: Carolyn (Frank) Oakes and Susan (Alan) Scobey all of Franklin, TN; four grandchildren: David Boyd, Joseph Scobey, John Boyd, and Jackie Scobey; one great grandchild, Lexi Boyd; one brother, Donald Townley of Buchanan; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Besides his parents, Mr. Townley was also preceded in death by a sister, Sue Nell Townley Robinson.
