Henry Gordon Owen, age 93 of Paris passed away Monday, January 20, 2020 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. His funeral service will be 11:00 AM Friday, January 24, 2020 at McEvoy Funeral Home with Pastor Ed Long and Co-pastor David Harrison of Union Primitive Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be at McEvoy Funeral Home from 3:00-7:00 PM Thursday, January 23, 2020 and after 9:00 AM Friday prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Tim McGuire, Jeff Perry, Tony Underwood, Larry Jackson, Larry Woodard, and Greg Underwood. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Paris Lions Club, Jerry Bell, Emory Florence, Bobby Owen and John Harrison. Henry Gordon Owen was born March 18, 1926 in Whitlock, Tennessee to the late Henry W. Owen and the late Mattie Vaughn Owen. On February 14, 1953 he married Betty Underwood Owen and she preceded him in death on February 19, 1981. In January of 1983 he married Mary Evelyn Throgmorton Owen and she preceded him in death on April 10, 2009. He was also preceded in death by his five sisters: Geneva McClure, Naomi Woodard, Marjorie Heath, Sarah McGuire, and Joyce Morris; and his three brothers: Harold Owen, James Owen, and Byron Owen. Gordon is survived by a daughter, Gina (Chip) McLean of Paris; two sons: Ricky (Cheryl) Owen of Paris and Scott (Nina) Owen of Paris; five grandchildren: Laura McLean, Kelsey McLean, Katie Owen (Jake McElroy), Giovanna Owen, and Isabella Owen; one step-daughter, Willene (John Dale) French; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mr. Owen was a member of Nelson Creek Primitive Baptist Church. He retired from BellSouth after 37 years of service. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy and he was a member of the Paris Lions Club for over 50 years. He loved gardening and he was a dedicated supporter of Helping Hands and Relay For Life.
