Harlan Thomas Olson

Harlan Thomas Olson, age 79, of Buchannan, Tennessee, died Sunday, December 27, 2020 at the AHC Senior Living Center in Paris, Tennessee. Due to pandemic concerns, a private burial will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Thompson, Iowa at a later date.
Harlan Thomas Olson, the son of Theodore "Ted" Olai Olson and Helen Sylverna (Helland) Olson, was born August 25, 1941 in Thompson, Iowa. He graduated from Thompson High School and enlisted in the Navy in 1959 where he learned about electronics. After his active duty in the Navy, he completed his service in the Army Reserves and Air Force Reserves. In addition to his military career, he worked for Honeywell in Minnesota, as a contractor on the early defense system in Alaska, and provided x-ray service and support to hospitals throughout Minnesota, Texas, and South Carolina. He opened the Paris Landing General Store in Buchannan and enjoyed serving the community until he retired in 2010. He was an active member of the AMVETS and enjoyed fishing, hunting, aviation, and reading.
Harlan is survived by his son, Zacharia Olson of Buchannan, TN; his second wife, Jeanne (Vachuska) Olson of Savannah, GA and their four children, Amy (Olson) Novak of Woodbury, MN, Christopher Olson of Frisco, TX, Matthew Olson of Norfolk, VA, and Sarah Olson of Savannah, GA; his first wife Susan (Anderson) Carlson of Garrison, MN and their child, Laura (Olson) Gergen of Mound, MN; his sisters, Sandra Peterson of Thompson, IA and Evonne Kouba of Des Moines, IA; thirteen grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Martha "Jo" (William) Olson; his brother, Rodney Olson; his sister Janice Mathenia; and his grandson, Carl Gergen.
