Joe Billy "Herby" Herbison, age 84, passed away at his home Tuesday, April 3, after a brief illness. He leaves behind four children: Bart Herbison of Nashville, Jon Herbison of Paris, Lori Herbison of New York City and Mark Herbison of Memphis. Grandchildren include Alex Herbison and Erin Chester of Nashville, Adam and Jake Herbison of Memphis and great-grandson Kieran Chester of Nashville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Noel and Flora Jane Herbison, and five sisters, Aileen Imler, Christine Atchison, Noelene Essary, Irene Yarbrough and Jacovia "Covie" Ann Glisson.
Mr. Herbison was born in Faxon, Tennessee on July 21, 1933. "Herby" moved to Paris with his family as a child where his father worked for the L&N Railroad. He served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged after sustaining a non-combat injury. After moving to Detroit, Michigan where he worked in the automotive industry, he returned to Paris and married the former Carol Pullen of Cottage Grove. They moved to Barstow, California where he was employed by the Sante Fe Railroad. Eventually, the family returned to Paris where he worked at Holley Carburetor before establishing J. B. Herbison Painting and Sandblasting, jointlyowned with his son, Jon.
Mr. Herbison was a devout Christian, beloved by family and friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his honor to Shepherd's Chapel Ministry, P.O. Box 416, Gravette, Arkansas, 72736.
Herby's visitation will be at McEvoy Funeral Home Saturday, April 21, 2018 from 12:30-2:00PM with a brief memorial service beginning at 2:00PM.
