James Garthel Haynes age 89 of Paris, Tennessee passed away Saturday, June 26, 2021 at his residence. His funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, July 1, 2021 at McEvoy Funeral Home with Eric Kelleher, of Bridge of Hope Church to officiate. Burial will follow services in New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Holladay, Tennessee. Visitation is scheduled at McEvoy on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. and again on Thursday after 10:00 A.M. until time of service.
James "Garthel" Haynes was born March 6, 1932 in Parsons, Tennessee to the late Glennie Washington Haynes and the late Vannie Lee Taylor Haynes. He married Jessie Mae Smith Haynes on April 29, 1950 and she survives in Paris. Garthel is also survived by his daughters, Vaynell Charlton (Michael Hollowell) and Linda (Dalton) Patterson, all of Paris; grandchildren, Chris Renfroe, Lee Ann Ellis, Brook Charlton and John Charlton; great grandchildren, Graci Ellis, Cale Ellis, Malea Renfroe, Cadance Charlton and Callie Charlton.
Besides his parents, Mr. Haynes was also preceded in death by his step mother, Aggie Britt Haynes; son, Wally Haynes, sister, Annie Lou Haynes who preceded in infancy; and by great grandchildren, Aaron Renfroe and Alissa Renfroe.
Mr. Haynes was a long haul truck driver with over two million accident free miles. Garthel also logged and ran a sawmill for a number of years. He was a very avid coon hunter and a Christian by faith.
