James Earl Rodgers (Big Tree), age 79, of Puryear, TN passed away at his residence on June 5, 2023, while surrounded by family. He was born on October 5, 1943, in Mayfield, KY, the son of Leon and Pauline Futrell Rodgers. Jim served with the United States Army in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. Later, he would marry Patricia Webb and after a short time of living in Michigan, they came back and settled in Paris, TN where they would raise their three children. Jim worked many years for Celotex and then Tecumseh from which he retired. Jim loved the outdoors. He could often be found in the duck blind, on the lake, or in the woods hunting and fishing with his eldest son Scott and dear friend Stan Chilcutt. Jim is survived by his three children; Scott (Lorrie) Rodgers of Puryear, Kelly Brown of Paris, and Jeffery Rodgers, as well as four grandchildren; Holley (Matthew) Votrain of Puryear, Kimberly Rogers of Paris, Jeremy (Summer) Allison of Paris, and Alexander Brown of Paris. He is also survived by two sisters Mary (Jerry) Moss of Cunningham, KY, and Phyllis Dunn of Mayfield, KY; one brother Jerry Michael (Pam) Rodgers; 8 Great Grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and the mother of his children, Jim was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law Donald Dunn. Services will be held at McEvoy Funeral Home, 507 West Washington Street in Paris, TN. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 7th from 4:00-7:00 PM and after 11:00 AM Thursday, June 8th. Services will be at 1:00 PM Thursday, June 8th with burial to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Paris, TN. Pallbearers will be Matthew Votrain, Ethan Ray, Jakob Ray, Camren Carter, Jeremy Allison, and Parker Allison. Honorary Pallbearer will be Stan Chilcutt. Visitation McEvoy Funeral Home, Inc.
