Jeannie Walker Haney of Paris passed away Friday, March 14, 2025. Her funeral service will be at 1:00 pm Saturday, March 22, 2025, at First United Methodist Church, 101 E. Blythe St., in Paris, with burial to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery. On Saturday, visitation will be after 11:00 am at Paris First United Methodist Church. Pallbearers for Ms. Haney will be Darryl Montgomery, Robert Montgomery, Nekia Garrett, Hugh Garrett, Annias Haney, and Jonathan Haney. Jeannie Opal Walker Haney was born in Decatur County Tennessee on February 12, 1940, to the late Ineasy Walker and Lige Walker. Jeannie was the youngest of 8 Children. Her siblings are the late Jessie May Webb, the late James Walker, the late Ruby Tatum, the late George Walker, the late Bobby McDonald, the late Yokely Earl Walker, and the late Charles Billie Walker. Our Mother accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in Decatur County Tennessee. She graduated from Crowder High School in Parsons Tennessee and was responsible for having Bishop J. O. Patterson Sr. the Presiding Prelate of the Church of God and Christ speak at her class graduation. Jeannie Haney was later accepted to Lane College in Jackson Tennessee. During her stay at Lane College, she became a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Incorporated. Mom graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry in 1963. While at Lane College she met Charles A. Haney. (who was also a Lane graduate) The two were married in May of 1966 at Temple Church of God and Christ in Parsons, Tennessee which was Jeannies home church. Two boys were born into this union: Charles Anthony "Chuck" (Veda) Haney and David Carlos Haney (Hollye Chambers). Our Mother was employed at the Henry County General Hospital and was the first African-American in the field of Medical Technology in Paris Tennessee. She was later employed at East Wood Clinic for over 30 years where she earned the position of laboratory supervisor. In addition to her work in the medical field, Mom played the piano and directed choirs for many years in various churches. Her dedication to the church was remarkable and she was not only known for her piano playing, but also for her singing and participation in various church functions throughout the years. In addition to her two boys, she leaves to cherish her precious memory of three beloved grandchildren: Charles Array Annias Haney, Cianna Elegance Haney, and Jonathan Aidan Haney. She also leaves our dear Aunt Frances and a host of Nieces, Nephews dear Friends, Brothers, and Sisters in Christ. Our Mother's words: "No matter what! Always remember, that everything is going to be alright! God is in control! He always has been and He always will be!" Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
