Mrs. Jessie Mae Smith Haynes, age 88 of Paris, Tennessee passed away Saturday, July 9, 2022, at Alive Hospice of Nashville, Tennessee. Her funeral service will be 12:00 P.M. Saturday, July 16, 2022, at McEvoy Funeral Home with Eric Kelleher of Bridge of Hope Church officiating. Burial will follow in New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery in Parsons, Tennessee. Family members will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation is scheduled after 10:00 A.M. on Saturday until service.
Jessie Mae Smith Haynes was born February 11, 1934, in Henderson County, Tennessee to the late William Albert Smith and the late Verlie Jane Quinn Smith. She married James "Garthel" Haynes on April 29, 1950, and he preceded her in death on June 26, 2021. Jessie is also survived by her daughters, Vaynell Charlton (Michael Hollowell) of Paris and Linda (Dalton) Patterson of Henry; grandchildren, Chris Renfroe, Lee Ann Ellis, Brook Charlton, and John Charlton; great-grandchildren, Graci Ellis, Cale Ellis, Malea Renfroe, Cadance Charlton, and Callie Charlton; and her brother, James William (Fay) Smith of Parsons.
Besides her parents and husband, Jessie is also preceded in death by her son, Wally Haynes, and by two great-grandchildren, Aaron and Alissa Renfroe.
Mrs. Haynes was an ordained Christian minister. She was an avid gardener who loved watching things grow. Jessie was an excellent seamstress who made her children's clothing growing up.
