Jimmie Ray Clary was born in Paris, Tennessee on June 14, 1938. He graduated from Fitzgerald High School and went on to get his Bachelor Degree in Education from Harding University. He received his Masters Degree in Counseling from Eastern Michigan University.
Jim was father to Monty, Marty (Ginger), Bethany and Lorraine (J). Jim was grandfather to Alecia (Theo), Amy (Nathan), Ashley (Collin), Jacob (Charley) and great-grandfather to Weston, Addie, Nora, Elizabeth, Vivienne, Evelyn, and Oliver.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Ruby Clary, sister Norma Cloy, daughter-in-law Dianne Clary, grandson Weston Clary, and great-grandson Benjamin Pantazis.
Jim was known for his love of sports playing and coaching. His coaching career included Clawson and Troy High Schools. He had the privilege of coaching each of his children in basketball which was one of the highlights of his life. He was a beloved teacher, counselor, and coach. He had tremendous success and had a huge impact on many young peoples lives over his career. He was honored by his peers by being inducted into the Michigan Coaches Hall of Fame.
Jim always had a great love for the outdoors, including fishing, hunting, and the love for dogs, which he learned from his father while growing up around many relatives in the Paris, Tennessee area. His passion for dogs eventually led into creating his own business, Clarys Kennels. He raised and trained a few field trial champion dogs.
Jim loved the Lord and put his faith in Christ. Through the difficulties and trials of life, Jim relied heavily on his faith. He was involved in many church activities throughout his life, including Fellowship of Christian Athletes and coaching at Michigan Christian Junior College. He used the passion of his life, fishing, helping to feed the homeless.
Jim will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
Family will receive friends Saturday, January 29, 2022 from 11am until the time of service at 1pm at Troy Church of Christ, 800 Trombley Dr., Troy.
A graveside service with burial to follow will take place at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday February 1, 2022 in Walker Cemetery, Cottage Grove, Tennessee.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Troy Church of Christ.
