Joe Howard Hunt, 76, son of Joy Hunt Wernet and the late James Wesley Hunt, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at his home in McKenzie, Tennessee. He was born April 14, 1950, in Paris, Tennessee. He attended Atkins-Porter Elementary School and graduated from E.W. Grove High School. While attending the University of Tennessee at Martin, Joe decided that a vocational path suited him better. He then attended a vocational school in Memphis, where he completed his training and certification in welding. In 1977, Joe moved to Oklahoma to pursue a career in his field, and he remained there for the next 45 years. He worked as an independent contractor, inspecting the construction and repair of commercial gas lines. Upon retirement, he returned to his roots in Henry County, Tennessee.

Joe is survived by his mother, Joy Wernet; his stepbrother, Robert Wernet, Jr.; his stepsister, Carolyn Wernet; and numerous beloved cousins and extended family members.

Joe loved his family and worked deliberately to foster those relationships throughout his life. He was good-natured, quick with a hearty laugh, and always good company. He was a loyal friend, a steadfast family member, and a loving son who was forever devoted to his mother.

Joe had a natural gift for understanding all things mechanical. He loved working on motorcycles and cars, especially his Corvairs and Harley-Davidsons. In later years, he could often be seen around town in his Morgan 3 Wheeler, an open-cockpit sports coupe.

Visitation and graveside services were held on Sunday afternoon, October 25, 2026, at Walker Cemetery in Henry County. McEvoy Funeral Home of Paris, Tennessee, was entrusted with the arrangements. Those wishing to make a memorial donation may contribute to a local charity of their choice.
