Mr. John N. Newman, age 80 of Buchanan, TN passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at Benchmark Assisted Living of Puryear, TN. His funeral service will be 2:00 PM Sunday, February 19, 2017 at McEvoy Funeral Home with Paul Setlech, Henry County Medical Center Hospice Chaplain officiating. Burial will follow at Bevil Cemetery with full military rites. Pallbearers will be U.S. Military with honorary pallbearers being John Smith, Ron Gazda, Dr. John Jana and Bill Snow. Visitation will be from 12:00-2:00 PM Sunday prior to the services. John N. Newman was born January 20, 1937 in New York City, New York to the late Newell Newman and the late Frances O'Neil Newman. On July 6, 1972 he married Shirley Emerson Newman who survives in Buchanan, TN. He is also survived by a daughter Shannon Newman Peele and her husband Brian of Emerald Isle, NC; one son, John Newman and his wife Beth of Franklin, TN; one sister, Anne Gazda and her husband Ron of Ft. Myers, FL; six grandchildren, Christopher Newman Peele and his fiancee Chelsea Anderson of Greensboro, NC, Thomas Emerson Peele of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Jennifer Taylor Newman of College Station, Texas, Jessica Taryn Newman of Murfreesboro, TN, Emily Faith Newman of Franklin, TN, and Anna Grayson Newman of Franklin, TN; and three nieces, Margaret Jana, Sandy Myles, and Teri Kennedy. Besides his parents, Mr. Newman was also preceded in death by a daughter Cynthia Newman Cook who passed away in 1989. Lt. Col. John Newman, U.S.M.C. retired after serving 33 and a half years including two tours in Vietnam. He returned to Tennessee, where he worked as Chief Warrant Officer for Davidson County Sheriff's Office for 15 years before retiring, President Emeritus of Tennessee Warrant Officers Association.
