Joseph Edward Casey, Age 95, formerly of Paris, passed away Wednesday evening, January 14, 2026 at his residence in Maryville, TN.

Born on October 25, 1930, in Henry County, Tennessee, Joseph was the son of Alsa Bedford (A.B.) Casey and Ruth Wynns Casey. Joseph married Shirley Carter on December 26, 1951, and they shared 71 years of marriage. As a couple, Joe and Shirley were deeply involved in education, community service, and their church, First Christian Church of Paris. Together, they shared with family and friends a love of the outdoors, art, history, and travel.

After graduating from Grove High School in Paris, Joseph attended Murray State University, where he majored in Biology and School Administration. Before beginning his teaching career, he served in the U.S. Air Force.

Joseph began his career teaching biology and coaching football at Grove Junior High School and later served as principal of that school. He concluded his career teaching biology and history at Henry County High School.

With a passion for the outdoors, Joseph was a founding member of the Friends of the Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge and an avid birder. He learned photography while in the Air Force and continued it as a lifelong hobby. His interest in birding led to a collection of remarkably realistic wood carvings and photographs.

Joseph was a lifetime member of the First Christian Church in Paris, where he served as an elder. He also served on the Paris–Henry County Arts Council and was a longtime contributor to Helping Hand.

Joseph is survived by his children: Michael Casey and wife Jane; Susan Brelsford and husband Kent, of Louisville, Tennessee; and Carol Cline and husband Gregg, of Salem, Oregon. His grandchildren include Stephanie Pierce, Emilee Naik, Rachel Davis, Jennifer Ayers, Casey Nelson, Collin McCready, Philip Casey, and David Brelsford. He is also survived by ten great-grandchildren.

Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; his parents; and his son, John Winfred Casey.

A Memorial Service in honor of a life well lived, will be held on March 21st 2026 at First Christian Church. Visitation with family and friends will begin at 11 a.m. with a memorial Service following at 12:00 p.m.

Memorials in honor of Joseph may be made to First Christian Church, 101 S. Poplar Street, Paris TN 38242 or to The Friends of the Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge, 1371 Wildlife Drive, Springville, TN 38256
