Mrs. LaVerne Morris Hopkins, age 97 passed away on Friday, September 16, 2022, at Charter Assisted Living in Paris. Her funeral service will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 21, 2022, with Bro. John Dale officiating. Burial will follow the service in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Visitation is scheduled on Wednesday, after 12:00 P.M. until time of service. LaVerne Morris Hopkins was born February 5, 1925, in Henry County Tennessee to the late William Walter Morris and the late Elsie Barnett Morris. She married Hulon L. Hopkins on September 23, 1951, and he preceded her in death on August 4, 2013. LaVerne is survived by her son, Stephen M. Hopkins, and his wife, Patrice of Boone, North Carolina; grandchildren, Emily Katherine Hopkins and Jonathan Lee Hopkins; sister, Kathleen Coley of Paris; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides her parents and husband, LaVerne is also preceded in death by sisters, Rachel Shelton and Willie Mae Lampkins; and brothers, Dempsey Morris and Wendell Morris. Mrs. Hopkins was a longtime member of the East Wood Street Church of Christ. She worked and retired from the U.T. Extension Office.
