Lawrence "Larry" Strickland, age 73 of Hazel, KY passed away Saturday, June 11, 2022, at Murray Calloway Co. Hospital in Murray, KY. His funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, June 16, 2022, at McEvoy Funeral Home in Paris, TN with Bro. Tom Clendenen of Calvary Temple Pentecostal Church officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be after 10:00 AM Thursday prior to the service at 11:00.
Lawrence Strickland was born July 13, 1948, in Paris, TN to the late L.T. Strickland and the late Dollie Teague Strickland. On October 27, 2007, he married Barbara "Barb" Cole Strickland and she survives in Hazel, KY.
Larry was the oldest of twelve children. At an early age it was apparent he was gifted with his hands. He was a natural carpenter, mechanic, and musician. He was well known in the area as a professional floral designer and Blues bass player. As a boy, he delivered for Frye Drug Store. He also worked at the Paris Landing Inn, Jack Jones Florist (among other florists), TVA, and he retired from the Tennessee Technology Center in Paris. He was a member of Free In The Spirit Church of God where he left the Blues behind and transitioned to Gospel music and was the head Deacon. Later he was a Deacon and member of Calvary Temple Pentecostal Church where he played the drums. Larry was a people person who was a loyal and loving family man, devoted husband, father, brother, and provider.
In addition to his wife, Larry is also survived by four daughters: Brittany Strickland of Houston, Kayla Strickland of Nashville, Shelia Strickland Santor of North Carolina, and Ty-Erica Tharpe of Wisconsin; six sons: Larson Strickland of Hazel, Corey Strickland of Dallas, Greg Strickland of Seattle, Lawrence Strickland, Jr. of Idaho, Larry Teague of Paris, and Timmy Teague also of Paris; three sisters: Shirley Strickland (Steve) Spruill of Clarksville, Brenda Strickland Flagg of Indiana, and Irene Strickland (Timothy) Waldon of Clarksville; four brothers: Thomas Strickland of Paris, Eddie (Rahima) Strickland of Clarksville, Willie Strickland of Paris, and Darrell Strickland of Wisconsin; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Besides his parents, Larry was also preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Strickland Johnson; and three brothers: Jerry Strickland, Billy Strickland, and Robert Strickland.
