Leo E. Wonderly Jr., age 91 of Springville passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville. His funeral service will be 4:00PM Saturday, June 9, 2018 at McEvoy Funeral Home with Bro. Larry Dukes, Bro. Jerry Lee and Bro. Randall Stoner officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Visitation will be after 1:00PM Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Chris McCain, Dan Caspers, Calvin Hudson, Lloyd Lewis, Dan Lewis, and Tom Aplin.
Leo Eugene Wonderly Jr., was born July 22, 1926 in Berwyn, Illinois to the late Leo Eugene Wonderly Sr., and the late Pauline Albrecht Wonderly. On July 27, 1962 he married Vicki Dwoinen Wonderly and she preceded him in death on October 13, 1989. On September 19, 1993 he married Grace Lewis McCain Wonderly and she survives in Springville, TN. Mr. Wonderly is also survived by a son, Bill (Nancy) McCain of Poplarville, MS; two grandchildren: Chris (Brooke) McCain of Brownsville, TN and Kelsey McCain of Dallas, TX; two great grandchildren: Ian McCain and Caroline McCain; a sister-in-law, Millie Wonderly of Los Angeles, CA; two nieces: Laura Gordos of Euclid, OH and Karen Wonderly of Cleveland, OH; and two nephews: Louis Gordos of Concord, OH and Norman Wonderly of Los Angeles, CA.
Besides his parents and first wife, Mr. Wonderly was also preceded in death by a sister, Elaine Gordos; and a brother, Norman A. Wonderly.
Mr. Wonderly served in the U.S. Navy in World War II aboard the merchant ship the MS Rosemont in the Atlantic and the Essex Class Carrier, the USS Randolph in the Pacific. He retired from the Federal Aviation Administration. He was a member of Point Pleasant Baptist Church and also a member of Quiet Birdmen, Cleveland, Ohio Hangar. Mr. Wonderly enjoyed boating and fishing on Kentucky Lake and cooking for family and friends.
