MARY BELLE BEARD Mary Belle (Mainey) Beard died on the morning of March 10th at Henry County Medical Center. Born July 9, 1926, Mrs. Beard was the daughter of the late Ruby Edwards Currier and John Nathaniel Currier. She married Bernis William Beard on November 19, 1950. He preceded her in death in 2003. A native of Paris, Mrs. Beard attended Atkins-Porter and Grove High School, where she was the President of the Class of 1944. A graduate of Southwestern at Memphis (now Rhodes College), she was employed by the Department of Human Services in Weakley and Henry Counties, and the Henry County Extension Service. She and her husband owned and operated The Toggery, which was established in 1917 by Mr. and Mrs. Currier, from the mid - 1960's until their retirement in the late 1980's. A member of the Janusette Delphian Club, and also the Town and Country FCE Club, Mrs. Beard served as a volunteer for the Helping Hand, the Blood Bank, and the Foster Home for Henry County. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. In later years she resided at Morningside in Paris. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernis William Beard; son, Johnny Beard, who passed away on March 22, 1962, following heart surgery; her brother, William Thomas Currier; sister, Pat Currier Key; and nephew Bill Currier. She is survived by her son, David Currier Beard of Parsons; daughter, Susan (Kevin) Robertson; and granddaughters, Sophie Grace Robertson, Tawny (Joe) Ehlert and Megan (Jon) Unger of Orange, CA. Survivors also include nieces Carolynn Hamlet, Patty (John) Marschel, Dr. Cindy (George) Cole, and nephews Joe (Carol) Hamlet, Harry (Peg) Williams, Bill Beard, Bob (Kathy) Beard, Frank Beard, and 5 great nieces and 3 great nephews. Graveside services will be held Saturday March 14 at Maplewood Cemetery in Paris at 11am.
