Melvin R. Duke, age 66 of Puryear passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at his residence. His funeral service will be Saturday, November 12, 2016 at McEvoy Funeral Home in Paris with Bro. Michael Barnhart of New Bethel Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00PM Friday, November 11, 2016 and after 9:00AM Saturday. Pallbearers for Mr. Duke will be Gary Duke, Larry Duke, Jim Eudy, Ed Eudy, Bob Eudy, John Eudy, and Jim Elkins. Honorary Pallbearers will be Larry Winchester and the men of New Bethel Baptist Church. Melvin Russell Duke was born February 10, 1950 in Paris, Tennessee to the late Thomas Magellan "T.M." Duke and the late Mary Magdalene Stamps Elkins. On February 12, 1967 he married Dianne Faye Matheny Duke and she survives in Puryear, Tennessee. Besides his wife, he is also survived by two sons, Melvin Russell (Carol) Duke, Jr., of Lakeland, TN and Christopher Wayne (Renee) Duke of Paris, TN; one sister, Cindy (Joe) Gholson of Harrisburg, IL; eight brothers, Gary (Nancee) Duke of Johnston City, IL, Larry (Roni Kay) Duke of W. Frankfort, IL, Jim Eudy of Harrisburg, IL, Ed (Lisa) Eudy of Marion, IL, Bob (Kurt) Eudy of Alton, IL, John (Debbie) Eudy of Harrisburg, IL, Jim (Nina) Elkins of St. Peters, MO, and Tommy Duke; five grandchildren, Allison (Bruce) Hooper of Paris, TN; Aiden Christopher Duke of Paris, TN; Emma Cole Duke of Lakeland, TN; Sara Kate Duke of Lakeland, TN; and Cassandra Morgan of Columbia, TN; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Besides his parents, Mr. Duke was also preceded in death by a sister, Susie Miller. Melvin was a member and deacon of New Bethel Baptist Church in Paris.
