Merle Capps Gooch, age 86, passed away February 15, 2020 a the Rutherford Memory Care in Murfreesboro, TN. Her funeral service will be 11:00 AM Wednesday February 19, 2020 at McEvoy Funeral Home with burial to follow at Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday 400PM - 7:00PM and after 10:00AM until service time Wednesday. She was born August 2, 1933, in Greenfield, TN to the late Loren Lafate "Bill" and Euna Mae Jenkins Capps. On July 3, 1953 she married William T. "Billy" Gooch, he preceded April 20, 2018. She is survived by two daughters: Cynthia R. "Cindy" (Kenny) Mathews and Tammy G. (Todd) Nelson, both of Murfreesboro, TN; a son: Gregory T. "Greg" Gooch, Paris, TN; grandchildren: Teresa Gooch, Daniel Gooch, Ashley Claybourne, Erin Mwizerwa, A.J. Mathews, Liam Nelson; great-grandchildren: Justin, Alli, Ayla, J.T., Elijah, Isabelle ,Avry; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Along with her parents she was preceded by her sister: Earline Capps (Charles Wendell) Morris. She was a long time member of Maplewood Baptist Church. She was a professional seamstress and along with her husband co-owned Gooch's Laundromat for 25 years. She spent many hours sitting on her front porch watching people and visiting.
