Mr. Nelson Thomas age 78 of Buchanan, Tennessee passed away on Sunday October 22, 2017 at his residence. His graveside service will be held at Poplar Grove Cemetery of Springville, Tennessee, 12:00 P.M. Wednesday October 25, 2017 with burial to follow. Bro. Randy Stephens will officiate. Serving as pallbearers will be Brian Miller, Jeff Eneix, Tommy Scarbrough, Billy Zucksckwerdt, Dale Thatcher, Jr. and Lynn Key. Visitation is scheduled at McEvoy Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. and again on Wednesday from 9:00 until 11:00 A.M. prior to leaving for the graveside service. Mr. Nelson was born April 4, 1939 in Newbern, Tennessee to the late Melburn "Joe" Thomas and the late Shallie Pike Thomas. His wife, Janice Rowlett Thomas preceded him in death on February 19, 2013. Nelson was formerly married to Barbara Whitehead of New Concord, Kentucky and to Alice Scarbrough of Buchanan, Tennessee. He is also survived by his daughter: Gina Thomas of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; his sons: Randy (Pam) Thomas of Waverly, Tennessee, Todd Thomas of New Concord, Kentucky, Mark (Grace) Thomas of Buchanan, Tennessee, Shawnee (Jessica) Willis of Buchanan, Tennessee; Step sons: Jeremy Buie and Bill (Rebecca) Zuckschwerdt all three of Paris, Tennessee; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. Thomas was a "pipeliner operating engineer" out of Local #324. Nelson enjoyed gathering with his friends at the Huddle House and was an animal enthusiast who truly loved his dogs.
