Rachel Sturdivant, age 101 of Paris passed away Thursday, May 16, 2019 at her residence. Her funeral service will be 11:00 AM Monday, May 20, 2019 at McEvoy Funeral Home with Dr. Trent Bullock and Bro. Jerry Massey officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 PM Sunday, May 19, 2019 at McEvoy Funeral Home and after 9:00 AM Monday. Pallbearers will be Jerry Joyner, Jimmy Williams, Jim Farmer, Ed Ledden, Doug Braden and Paul Veazey. Rachel R. Lampkins Sturdivant was born November 8, 1917 in Martin, Tennessee to the late Edward Washington Lampkins and the late Jessie Brooks Lampkins. On December 1, 1935 she married Fred L. Sturdivant and he preceded her in death on January 16, 1990. Mrs. Sturdivant is survived by one son, Bart Sturdivant of Paris, TN; one nephew, Van (Debbie) Rucker of Collierville, TN; one great niece, Rachel Rucker of Collierville, TN; one great nephew, Edmund Rucker of Collierville, TN; The LaRee Brewer family of Martin, TN; and many extended family members and friends. Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Sturdivant was also preceded in death by two sisters: Louise Rucker and Lottie Berry; and a brother, Boyd Lampkins. Rachel Sturdivant was a graduate of E.W. Grove High School and was employed with the National Store. She later devoted her life as a full time homemaker, wife and mother. She was a 96 year member of First Baptist Church where she served some 40 years in the kitchen and Sunday School ministries. She was a devoted community volunteer with Henry County Medical Center and as an election worker for several decades. Memorials may be made to: First Baptist Church, 313 N.
