Ray Thompson, age 86 of Buchanan, Tennessee, passed away Monday, September 5, 2016 at his residence. His funeral will be 1:00 PM Thursday, September 8, 2016 at McEvoy Funeral Home with Bro. Randy Stephens of Sulphur Well Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow at New Beaver Dam Cemetery in Buchanan. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 PM on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 and after 11:00 AM Thursday until service time at 1:00 PM. Pallbearers for Mr. Thompson will be T.K. Scarbrough, Hunter Thompson, Dustin Mackey, Larry Turner, Vick Adams, and Richard Dunlap. Honorary Pallbearers will be Glen Hubbard, Robert Scarbrough, Darrell Dunlap, and Jimmy Scarbrough. Ray Thompson was born October 8, 1929 in Gadsden, Alabama to the late Otis Thompson and the late Blanche Scarbrough Thompson. On December 12, 1949 he married Wilodean "Dean" Dunlap Thompson who preceded him in death on December 25, 2007. Ray is survived by two sons, Stephen (Debbie) Thompson of McKenzie, TN and Stanley (Cindy) Thompson of Mason, TN; one sister, Nita Adams of Jackson, TN; one brother, J.W. Thompson of O'Fallon, IL; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and special friends. Besides his parents and wife, Mr. Thompson was also preceded in death by on son, Stuart Thompson; two sisters, Margaret Lewis and Evelyn James; and one brother, Earl Thompson. Ray Thompson formerly worked and retired from Holley Carburetor as a supervisor. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #108 and was an avid hunter and fisherman and a Baptist by faith.
