Raymond Douglas “Doug” Overton, age 88, of Paris, TN passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2026 at his residence. His funeral service will be at 3:00 P.M. on Monday, June 15, 2026, at McEvoy Funeral Home, conducted by Dr. Trent Bullock of First Baptist Church. Named as pallbearers are, Clifton Escue, Qulin Escue, Kevin Escue, Alvin Escue, Bob Evans, Stan Veazey, and Duke Veazey. Burial will follow services in Thompson – Overton Cemetery in the Delno Community of Paris.
Visitation with the family is planned on Monday, after 1:00 P.M. until time of the service.
Doug Overton was born November 2, 1937, in Bells, Haywood County, Tennessee to the late Raymond Andrew Overton and the late Virgie Spitzer Overton. He married Jane Thompson Overton, and they’ve been wed for 56 years. Jane survives in Paris. Doug is also survived by his sons, Raymond Douglas “Doug” (Teri) Overton, II of Paris and Steven (Donna) Overton of South Dakota; grandchildren, William Douglas “Will” Overton, Raymond Andrew “Drew” Overton, both of Paris and Blake Frey of Nashville; sisters, Peggy Garner of Jackson and Helen Turner of Brownsville; brother, David Overton of Bells; sister-in-law, Rita (George) Wofford of Paris; and by numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Besides his parents, Mr. Overton is also preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Taylor and his brother, Jerry Overton.
Doug was a member of Local 407 and Local 614 Steamfitters for 50 years. He enjoyed traveling in his motor home, especially when the grandchildren could go. He enjoyed quail hunting and loved his bird dogs as well as riding his registered Spinks quarter horses for many years. Doug lived on the family Century farm and raised cattle for many years. He and his wife, Jane, attended First Baptist Church in Paris.
