Wilma Caleb Schaal Underwood, age 92 of Paris passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at Murray Calloway County Hospital in Murray, Kentucky. Her funeral service will be 2:00 PM Saturday, May 15, 2021 at McEvoy Funeral Home with Bro. Lynn King officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be after 12:00 PM Saturday at McEvoy Funeral Home prior to the service. Wilma Caleb Schaal Underwood was born December 22, 1928 in Medina, New York to the late Edwin J. Caleb and the late Corrine Amelia Reed Caleb. On December 1, 1950 she married Norman Lee Schaal and he preceded her in death on January 28, 1989. On September 18, 1992 she married Joseph "Roy" Underwood and he preceded her in death on April 5, 1995. Mrs. Underwood moved to Paris from her home in Western New York with her husband and four young children in 1964, leaving behind her parents and eleven siblings. She quickly adapted to the southern culture and made life-long friends. She found her church home at Maplewood Baptist Church and was active in Sunday School and served as the church librarian for many years. She was a talented seamstress, making clothes for her children and their dolls, and she excelled at needle crafts. However she didnt discover her true passion quilting until she was in her fifties. Her quilts are true works of art and are treasured by her family. She gifted each of her grandchildren with one of her beautiful quilts when they married. Along with her friends at the Paris Quilt Guild, she designed and crafted hundreds of small quilts to donate to children being treated at Le Bonheur Childrens Hospital in Memphis. Her children and grandchildren spent many happy hours playing card games and board games with her. She enjoyed winning. She will be greatly missed. Wilma is survived by three daughters: Wendy (Chuck) Goggin of Nashville, TN, Patricia Barrow of Paris, TN and Darcy (Gus) Janson of Abingdon, VA; one son, Craig (Kathy) Schaal of Paris, TN; ten grandchildren: Josh (Erin) Hildreth, Chris (Jennifer) Goggin, Troy (Lori) Barrow, Amanda (Steve) Elliott, Zachary (Caroline) Janson, Hannah (Kyle) Pollard, Caleb Janson, Stacie (Eric) Petring, Corey (Jana) Schaal and Keith (Blakely) Schaal; thirteen great grandchildren; and one brother, Kenneth Caleb of Medina, NY. Besides her parents and husbands, Wilma was also preceded in death by a grandchild, Greer Evan Schaal; three sisters; and seven brothers.
